CAPRESE SANDWICH

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of ciabatta, baguette, or sourdough bread
  • 1 large ripe tomato, sliced
  • 1 ball of fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • A handful of fresh basil leaves
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze (or balsamic vinegar)
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Toast the bread: Lightly toast the bread to give it a crispy texture. Brush each slice with a little olive oil for added flavor if desired.
  2. Layer the ingredients: On one slice of the toasted bread, arrange the sliced tomato and mozzarella. Add a generous handful of basil leaves on top.
  3. Season with salt and black pepper for added flavor.
  4. Drizzle olive oil and balsamic glaze (or balsamic vinegar) over the top for a burst of flavor.
  5. Top with the second slice of bread, press gently, and slice in half.

Variations:

  • Pesto Twist: Spread a layer of pesto on the bread for extra depth of flavor.
  • Avocado Addition: Add a few slices of avocado for a creamy texture.
  • Grilled Version: Press the sandwich in a panini press or grill it in a skillet to melt the mozzarella slightly and give the bread extra crunch.
