WAFFLES WITH FRESH FRUIT AND HONEY

Ingredients:

For the Waffles:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup melted butter (or vegetable oil)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Toppings:

  • Fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, bananas, raspberries, etc.)
  • Honey (for drizzling)
  • Optional: Whipped cream or Greek yogurt

Instructions:

Step 1: Make the Waffle Batter

  1. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined (do not overmix).

Step 2: Cook the Waffles

  1. Lightly grease the preheated waffle iron with non-stick spray or butter.
  2. Pour enough batter into the waffle iron to cover about two-thirds of the grid, and close the lid.
  3. Cook according to the waffle iron’s instructions (usually 3-5 minutes) until the waffles are golden brown and crispy.
  4. Remove the waffles and repeat with the remaining batter.

Step 3: Add Toppings

  1. Place the warm waffles on a plate and top with your choice of fresh fruit (such as strawberries, blueberries, bananas, or raspberries).
  2. Drizzle with honey for sweetness.
  3. For extra indulgence, you can add a dollop of whipped cream or a spoonful of Greek yogurt.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Serve the waffles warm with a side of extra honey or syrup for drizzling.

Tips:

  • You can substitute whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter for a bit of spice.
  • For crispy waffles, avoid stacking them; instead, keep them in a single layer on a cooling rack.

Variations:

  • Nutty Twist: Add crushed nuts like almonds, walnuts, or pecans on top for added crunch.
  • Tropical: Use tropical fruits like mango, pineapple, and kiwi, and drizzle with coconut syrup.
